How to care for a snake

How to care for a snake. If you are interested in keeping a snake you will need to know certain things. Like how big the tank should be and what food that type of snake eats. Here is a list of basic things you will need for your snake.

1. A water bowl that is big enough for your snake to soak in
2. Bedding for the bottom of the tank
3. Some kind of cave or container for your snake to hide in
4. A heating pad for half of the tank, so that the snake can go to the warm side of the cold side depending on how it feels.
5. A tank (the tank size may very between different kinds of snakes, so look up what your snake needs.)
6. Make sure you know what kind of food your snake needs, (different food for different snakes, some foods are mice, rats, crickets, ect.)

You should get a snake when it is young, so that the snake grows up friendly and around people.
If possible I would recomend getting your snake at a shelter or a rescue center. The snakes at pet shops tend to be weak or short lived.  


 

My spring break

On spring break 2016, I mostly sat in my room. I spent my time re-watching seasons 7-8 of SPN and having the feels all over again. I occasionally ventured out of my safe, warm, room to a acquire food and drink. Every so often my family would send a little sibling knocking at my door to ensure that I was still alive. It was enjoyable over all.

I also learned how to play pool this break. My grandparents have a pool table but it was always covered in stuff, like any other table. This break I decided to clean it off and learn how to play, and that's just what I did. I discovered that we have pool balls and sticks. They were hiding behind the bird cage. I enjoy playing and I am getting better at it, the problem is getting someone else to play. It seems no one else in my family shares my interests in pool, but they are willing to play every now and than.

My favorite part of my portfolio is the poetry booklet. It is my favorite because I enjoyed writing it.  I like to write poetry because it is a good way to express and convey ideas and emotions. It is something that I have recently discovered, and a hobby of mine. The poetry booklet is a collection of my favorite poems that I wrote this fall.

My least favorite part of my portfolio is my children's book. It took more effort than expected, and finding and sourcing art was also harder than I thought it would be. I don't usually write things for other people to read, much less children, so I had to come up with  a simple, appropriate story.  I also wrote it late at night so it's not my best work, but it is overall okay.

I have grown as a writer because of the class magazine. It is a collection of writing that over the year our class has written. I wrote a short story, a poem, and a dialogue, I learned and grew as a writer wile writing these. I also learned more about writing because of reading my classmate's work.

I want to write more poetry, it is my favorite form of writing. It can be powerful, sad, beautiful, or all of these things at once. You can wright about your feelings, your experiences, or your opinions and problems.  Poetry is an open book, it doesn't even have to be about you, you can write it about someone else.  It is a wonderful form of self expression, and I enjoy writing poetry because it can be whatever you want it to be.

I don't pay very much attention to the elections. I can't vote so I don't want to get all worked up over something I can't do anything about. The only reason I know anything about who is running this year is because it's hard not to. I mean, it's all over the news, and everything online is about who you should vote for. But if I could vote I would vote for anyone that isn't Trump. Why would anyone vote for him? He doesn't stand a chance, and if by some horrible coincidence, and he douse make it to the final election, he probably bought his vote. I mean, why would anyone think it was a good idea to vote for him? And, even if he douse get elected, (never would happen) the impeachment services would have him out within 24 hours.

About me:

My name is Maitreya, I am 12 years old. I was born in December, 10 weeks early. I go to school at Leaves of Learning in Cincinnati OH. I enjoy drawing, writing poetry, and reading. My favorite book is currently Six of Crows, this book doesn't get good until about page 150. I also like to hike, skateboard, and rock climb. I prefer when the weather is overcast, windy, and about 66 degrees. My favorite season is Autumn, because it is not too hot and not too cold.

I have a pet rat named Violet, and I hope to get a pet snake in the future. I would get a corn snake because they don't get too big, and they are known for being friendly and being good pets in general. They will also eat food that is not alive, so they are easier to take care of than most other snakes would be.

I have 2 younger siblings, a sister and a brother. We live part time on a farm in Indiana, the farm has been in the family for almost 200 years. The rest of the time we live in Cincinnati. I enjoy exploring the 150 acre farm and walking in the woods. We have a dog named Casey, he is a great Pyrenees Bulgarian shepherd mix.
